Bio: Mr. Tola received the Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the University of Siena, Italy. During his studies he has been working on wireless communication networks and in particular for the Bachelor dissertation he investigated the use of M2M communications in managing smart parking areas. For his Master dissertation he has been doing research on LTE-A cellular systems, with particular focus on the implementation of D2D relaying communications in order to achieve higher cellular efficiency, coverage and better overall performances. For this scope, he developed a cellular network simulator in collaboration with Ericsson Research Labs, Stockholm. After his studies, prior to joining CleanSky, he has been working at HP (Italy) as a Software Engineer having responsibilities of software testing and customer support for Telephony Networks and Services.

What’s your motivation for doing your PhD, and why within CleanSky?
During my working experience I realized that the most satisfactory professional moments were those related to the research I did for my dissertations and the opportunity of being part of a Marie Curie ITN project and perform research on hot topics like Cloud Computing was a chance I couldn’t let go. Such projects provide tools and means to a researcher so that one can boost his/her professional and soft skills.
What is your goal after finishing your PhD?
The main scope is to continue enjoying doing research and acquire the necessary expertise in the field and why not, even make a mark. It would be a big achievement starting my own startup and developing it.
